Mayor Solomon Announces Community Meetings Across All Six Wards to Address City Budget

Mayor James Solomon has announced a series of comprehensive community meetings scheduled across all six wards of Jersey City, with the primary aim to tackle the city’s fiscal challenges through open dialogue. According to a press release from the City of Jersey City, these meetings are planned for February and March 2026, marking a structured approach to engaging community leaders, elected officials, and residents in discussing solutions to the city’s budgetary concerns.

“Every resident of Jersey City deserves a seat at the table when it comes to decisions that affect their community,” Mayor Solomon expressed in the announcement. He emphasized the initiative’s goal of listening, engaging, and collaboratively working towards finding solutions, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive civic participation during this critical fiscal period.

Beginning February 14, Phase 1 of the engagement process will commence, focusing on meetings with community leaders in each ward. These sessions aim to bring together a diverse group of participants including neighborhood association representatives, Special Improvement District directors, faith leaders, and elected officials for facilitated dialogues. The city plans to limit these sessions to 40 attendees and 90 minutes each to ensure productive and meaningful discussions. A key feature of these meetings is the use of a facilitated dialogue model, rather than traditional town hall formats, to encourage collaborative problem-solving and reduce adversarial dynamics.

Phase 2, set to launch in March 2026, opens the meetings to all city residents, providing an expansive platform for community engagement. These sessions will be accessible through advance registration on Eventbrite, with additional phone-in registration support available for seniors and residents requiring assistance. In an effort to accommodate wider participation, the city also plans to livestream these meetings. The tentative schedule for the Open Community Meetings includes sessions across all wards, starting with Ward A on March 5 at 7:00 PM and concluding with Ward F on March 26 at 7:00 PM.

In partnership with City Council ward councilmembers, the Mayor’s office aims to ensure robust community participation by engaging leaders in outreach and ensuring that the meetings reflect the diversity and priorities of Jersey City’s neighborhoods. The press release promises more details on registration and participation in the upcoming weeks.

This initiative underscores a pivotal move towards involving the city’s residents in fiscal decision-making processes, showcasing an administrative effort to bridge gaps between city officials and the communities they serve.
