Mayor James Solomon announced a citywide “Senior Freeze” campaign to help eligible Jersey City seniors and disabled homeowners apply for New Jersey’s Senior Freeze Property Tax Reimbursement program before the Nov. 2, 2026 filing deadline, according to a City of Jersey City news release dated June 17, 2026.

The state program reimburses qualifying residents for property tax increases on their principal residence, effectively locking their taxes at a base-year level. City officials say many people who qualify never apply and leave savings unclaimed year after year.

“For seniors on fixed incomes, the increasing cost of living is a threat to the life they’ve built in Jersey City. Fortunately, the State of New Jersey offers real relief and stability through the Senior Freeze program, and we are going to make sure every eligible Jersey City senior has a chance to apply,” Solomon said in the release. “We’re going to meet our seniors where they are – at community events, at town halls, and at their front doors – to make sure no eligible resident misses out.”

Through the campaign, the city said it will:

• Canvass door to door in neighborhoods with senior residents.
• Staff the Resident Response Center to help with eligibility questions and applications.
• Bring information to community events across the city.
• Host town halls with onsite signup help so residents can finish applications in one visit.
• Offer materials in multiple languages.

This year’s Senior Freeze application is part of a single combined form that also covers ANCHOR and Stay NJ, allowing applicants to claim those benefits together. Eligibility for Senior Freeze is based on residency, income, and age as of 2024 and 2025, the city said.
